Head Start is a federally funded preschool program for low-income or at-risk children. In Northfield, there are two classrooms of children from ages three to five. The classes run Monday-Thursday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and volunteers sign up for anywhere from 1-3 hours of time on a given day and volunteer consistently throughout the semester. Much of the program’s funding is based on the number of volunteer hours, so the teachers at Head Start heavily depend on volunteer efforts.
