St. Olaf’s Student Senate brings together a variety of student leaders from across campus. On September 30th, the Senate met and heard from the Carleton Student Association and learned at the inner workings of their organization and began talks of collaborating with their organization in the future. Next, the Senate heard for Professor David Van Wylen about the Sustainability Task Force. He highlighted that for change to occur, it needed to come from the students rather than just the administration. Further, the Student Curriculum Initiative asked for Senate’s support when talking to the faculty about rethinking the guidelines for the MCD and MCG General Education requirement. This group wants to have these GEs deal with more issues dealing with power, inequality, and privilege to give St. Olaf students a broader sense of the world’s view. This report was given by Sociology and Anthropology students.
