This past Tuesday (2/16/16), the senate had a long yet productive meeting! We first heard from Brad Hoff, the Director of Engagement, Alumni & Parent Relations. Brad emphasized the recent projects of the APR, including giving Class Shirts to the Class of 2019, collaborating with the ASC to create a “Declare your Major Day” for students, and developing a fall celebration for Senior students! Next, Joshua Lee discussed the process for applying to have an Honor House. He underscored the increasing trend of students applying to create academically-focused Houses, yet he also affirmed that the only Houses that will remain permanent fixtures (at least for now) are the Language Houses and the Diversity Awareness House. The senate also loved hearing from two students – Kyle Wilmar and Hector Poveda Morales. Wilmar emphasized his desire that the students be updated on the Mission Statement Revision Process. Wilmar also expressed that he’d like to see more of a focus on wellness in the new Mission Statement. Next, the senate approved Ginny Larson as the Election Commissioner for the upcoming elections. Finally, we discussed a proposal brought forth by the Bylaws Committee. This proposal would expand the number of aliases that candidates can email while campaigning.
