During the Senate meeting on 11/17/15, senators heard from three speakers. First, VP of Enrollment and College Relations Michael Kyle updated us on the marketing strategies of the college. He discussed the rise in St. Olaf’s social media presence and its effect of raising the number of applicants to the college, the popularity of St. Olaf streaming around the world (over 300,000 unique viewers over 2 year period!), and the growth of applicants to St. Olaf from California and Texas. Second, IT staff members Heather Malecha and Perrin Bishop Wright updated the Senate on changes to the IT department. For example, IT is expanding to a 10 Gig Internet Bandwidth and buying into eduroam which will allow students to access St. Olaf Wifi at participating locations around the world! Finally, Sindy Fleming, Director of the Center for Multicultural and International Engagement, discussed the teach-in event that will be occurring tomorrow (Thursday) from 5:30-7:00pm in the Sun and Hold Ballrooms! The staff will also be organizing a similar event aimed at addressing issues of racism as they relate to pedagogical practice. She also mentioned that it would be a good idea to rename the DCC (Diversity Celebrations Committee).
