I am interested in this position because I want to be an extra hand when it comes to the daily life of residents. College is busy and complicated but if my efforts can somehow help residents or student government in any way, then I consider it a success. As a Communications Officer, I would do my very best to ensure that information about the Hall can be easily found and accessed at any time and that no student of Mohn would feel uninformed or unaware about what is happening in their own home. I want to be the person that residents can rely on. If there are any questions about Mohn events or activities, I want to be a source that they would be comfortable using as well as approaching.
Tell us what we should know about you, when considering you for this position.
I am incredibly organized and I love talking to people. I am a busy person but that helps me stay on top of my responsibilities. I am committed to being involved on St. Olaf campus and I am passionate about making things the best they can be!
How would you ensure that residents are well-informed and involved in hall initiatives and programming?
I would ensure that residents are well-informed and participating by advertising and social networking. The purpose of a “Communication Officer” is to communicate to the students information about events and other hall-related things. For me, this would be through e-mails, posters, and other sources such as social media. I promise I will not spam residents of Mohn. E-mails are an easy way to personally ensure that all Mohn residents receive the necessary information but information also can get lost in the thousands of other emails that are received every day. If I was elected to this position, I would try informing residents using social media. I would love to create an Instagram account or a Twitter page that students could follow to remain updated on what is happening in Mohn. Sometimes posters and emails get lost in the chaos but by using an every day source that is accessible and organized separately from a student’s every day email, we could expand Mohn’s sources of communication to students.

I am interested in this position because I strongly believe that my previous experiences as a leader can continue to be applied within this council. I am a great listener who will be able to communicate to the rest of the community accurately about information, events, and programs within the hall. I am willing to take some time out of my week to commit to the Hall Council committee and display genuine interest towards making this residence a better and safer environment for everyone.

Even though I am only a first year, I think that my voice can make a difference in the choices that are made. I may not know much, but I am more than happy to learn through the process!
How would you ensure that residents are well-informed and involved in hall initiatives and programming?
I would make posters and display them around the hall. I would send out emails- as it is the way Oles communicate around the campus! Maybe I would even slip little flyers or something under the doors of residences as well. Overall, I would try my best to spread word about what is going on.

I’m extremely interested in pursuing a future job in the communications sector. Therefore, I believe this would be great experience for the future. I also want to create a community within Mohn.
Tell us what we should know about you, when considering you for this position.
I’m such a people person and would thrive at a job that relied on that. I’d accomplish what I would need to in order to do my job well. I would take this very seriously since it’s somewhat like a job I want in the future.
How would you ensure that residents are well-informed and involved in hall initiatives and programming?
I would design posters to inform residents of upcoming events. I would be active on social media to communicate with residents online.

I’m the most fun person I know! I am extremely extroverted and love getting to know people, so making fun events for people to get to know each other is something i’d absolutely be interested in! I went to national qualifiers for speech, and know how to hold the attention of a group very easily! Not to mention, I radiate positive energy! I work with others for the city of Eden Prairie, and I have great social skills and am very accustomed to making schedules and sticking to them.
Tell us what we should know about you, when considering you for this position.
I want to be a president that people can trust and contact if necessary! Because I suffer from depression and anxiety, I know what it’s like to be sad: and that’s why i’m so happy all the time. I love making others feel happy as well, and want them to know that I am 100% a great shoulder to cry on if they have problems, and we can take steps to make Mohn a better place for everyone! I’m also a member of the LGBT+ community, so I have no problems with that!
What programs would you like to see in your hall this year?
I would love to have a board game night! I have plenty of games for people to join in, and would supply fun prizes for winners! As well as board games, I would be willing to use my switch for mario kart or super smash bros tournaments. Last year in Hoyme, I was also introduced to having treats on hard days (such as finals week), so i’d love to have some junk food nights!

Political Science, ?
What do you know about the Student Senate?
I know very little, though I do know that the Student Senate is responsible for many of the activities and goings-on that happen on campus.
Tell us why you are interested in this position.
I would really like to serve as a conduit to further Student Senate and hall council collaborations in the future, hopefully creating good programs and activities throughout the year.
What skills/interests/etc. would you bring to this position?
I consider myself a pretty adept delegator and relayer of information, both of which I can see coming in handy in the position of Hall Senator. I am also a member of the Environmental Coalition, so further collaboration with that group, among others on campus would be one of my top priorities.
What is one thing you would like to see Senate address this year?
I would like to see the Senate address further policies on eco-friendly actions to take on campus. This would include more composting bins, less plastic waste, and divesting from fossil fuels.

What do you know about the Student Senate?
The Student Senate is about representation as well as problem-solving. Senators are responsible for listening to and making known the concerns of those they represent, but their primary purpose is to get things done and make change when change needs to be made.
Tell us why you are interested in this position.
I am interested in this position because I want to actively engage with students on campus but also St.Olaf as an institution. I want hands-on experience with solving issues facing our community and also ensure the interests of all students are being met.
What skills/interests/etc. would you bring to this position?
I am well qualified for this position firstly because I bring with me a diverse range of perspectives. I have lived in 4 different countries and work well with people from backgrounds and identities different from mine. I also have experience with leadership as well as mentorship so I know when to listen but I am also able to speak up and address issues that others might find difficult to voice. I also care deeply about the quality of life here at St.Olaf and I want to ensure that we all feel that the time and money we and our families spend here is worth it.
What is one thing you would like to see Senate address this year?
One issue that I believe is relevant to every student on campus is transportation and accessibility. Northfield is wonderful but it is small and students often want to visit surrounding towns, not just Minneapolis. This year I would like to work with Senate to find a way to make nearby towns more accessible to students in order to broaden the range of experin.ces and activities we can have while at St.Olaf.

Tell us why you are interested in this position.
I am interested in this position, as I feel that it is an excellent way to give back to the community of Mohn Hall while simultaneously developing critical thinking, communication, accounting skills. This position will allow me to be a direct advocate for the Mohn Hall community, and it will allow me to further my volunteer experience within my own community.
Tell us what we should know about you, when considering you for this position.
My name is Logan Flom, and I am an eager first-year student that is looking to become involved within the Hall Council. I plan to become a pre-medical Biology/Chemistry double major with a concentration in Biomolecular Science as of now. I am quite open when talking to people, and I pay a very high attention to detail, regardless of the level of the tasks set before me.
What are some skills you possess that would be advantageous for managing hall finances?
I would say that some skills that I possess that would be advantageous for managing hall finances would include my high attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and familiarization with handling data sets. It is important to elect someone that will pay the highest attention to detail with regard to the financial aspects of the residence hall, and I believe that I have that ability and philosophy in mind. I also possess critical thinking skills that will allow me to accurately budget and manage the hall finances, and this will be enhanced through the familiarization that I have with various data processing software like Google Sheets and Excel.

I am interested in this position because I want to get to know my fellow residents of Mohn better and I really want to be involved in something on campus. This position would teach me new skills and help me use my existing skills in a different way. Budgeting and staying organized with money is something I find very important and I would love to help out in that aspect of our dorm community.
Tell us what we should know about you, when considering you for this position.
I am very hardworking and organized, and I always finish a task that I start. I am very committed to finishing a job and doing it in the best way I possibly can.
What are some skills you possess that would be advantageous for managing hall finances?
I have a very orderly mind and like to get things done in an organized fashion. I am extremely detail oriented and usually triple-check any sort of calculation I make. I don’t have very much experience in dealing with money, but I am very dedicated to my personal financial budgeting. Being money-conscious, I think I would be able to make decisions about budgeting for the dorm events in a very appropriate manner.

As someone who actually enjoys things such as excel spreadsheets, budgeting, as well as keeping track of finances as a whole I feel as if I would thrive as Hall Treasurer. Additionally, I would appreciate the opportunity to participate on a council that works to create a positive and fun experience for residents living in Mohn.
Tell us what we should know about you, when considering you for this position.
Beyond academics, I participate in intramurals such as dodgeball and badminton. I also work at the circulation desk at the library. Usually you can find me hanging out in my octet of Mohn or studying somewhere in the library enjoying chocolate truffle cookie from The Cage.
What are some skills you possess that would be advantageous for managing hall finances?
Beyond the fact that the premise of the Hall Treasurer role is something I am passionate about; it is also something I have experience with. Last semester I was hired to be one of Ole Thrift’s financial coordinators, and although I am still new to that role, I have already learned a great deal. Additionally, I plan on majoring in economics with an emphasis in finance and concentrating in statistics.

I’ve always wanted to be an advocate for people who don’t always have a voice. Being a bisexual gender-nonconforming gal myself, I know that speaking up isn’t always easy, but I want to be that person that people can rely on to share their thoughts and opinions openly and without feeling hesitant or scared.
Tell us what we should know about you, when considering you for this position.
I’m super friendly, and I’m always willing to listen to y’alls concerns and questions! I love being there for people when they don’t have anyone else and I would so so so happy to advocate for all the mohners and their needs :)) Plus my roommate has a cat this year so if you’re ever having a bad day you’re welcome to come to my room and rant or just play with Piper (the cat).
How do you intend on encouraging and foster an inclusive environment in your residence hall?
I hope to create an environment where all feel comfortable and safe, from feeling like they can ask questions to even just feeling safe EXISTING and living in the dorms. I know that I have experienced some difficulties with feeling like I was unsafe and not being looked out for in my last dorm and I want to do everything I can to make sure no one else has to experience such discomfort in what’s supposed to be your safe space (your HOME!!!).

It is a goal of mine to personally make everyone feel welcome, even if we disagree on some things. I want to make St. Olaf, and Mohn, a place where people can actually feel comfortable living as their authentic selves and where they don’t fear judgment from their peers based on who they are or how they present.
Tell us what we should know about you, when considering you for this position.
I was Hoyme’s IA last year and, though the job is pretty new, was able to find some footing in the council and believe that my experiences last year in trying to solidify the role of the IA will be useful in making this year even better and in showing the student body why this role matters and what the school as a whole can gain from the inclusion and acceptance of all.
How do you intend on encouraging and foster an inclusive environment in your residence hall?
For starters, I aim to always ask people’s pronouns when making introductions. As the year goes on and we are all more settled, my roommate and I hope to have a pretty open-room when we are there so that people can stop by for tea or snacks and to hang out and talk. I will try my best to have food options for everyone despite allergies or other dietary restrictions at hall events. I also hope to bring more awareness to our non-Lutheran Ole’s and celebrate/have decorations for holidays other than just Christmas. I will not judge another based solely on their politics; I will try to live as a mediator and foster healthy and constructive conversations on controversial topics rather than fights.
