Have you ever been to a local concert to see your favorite artist live? The same way your local radio station hosts music festivals, the Smack Radio and MEC are throwing their very first student-led contemporary music concert on campus. The Urban Sound is on Friday April 1st, at 7:30 PM. This is a great time for St. Olaf to showcase the student musical talent in the Pause Mane Stage! The Urban Sound is open to the public, so that means your local friends are invited too! We encourage you and your friends to come and relieve some stress while enjoying new talent all in one Friday night!

Unlike any other event at St. Olaf, the Urban Sound is bringing you a compilation of performances ranging in a variety of music genres. With performances from the likes of Tolu Toluhi, Gen. Rising, Paulo Gladney, Efren Ramirez, Ross Nevin, Afritino, and Alex Hemmer you are getting the whole package!

Paulo Gladney, with his guitar and loop pedal, is performing a breathtaking live set of original songs and doing a cover of Ed Sheeran.

Tolu and his band are bringing a fun vibe for the audience, performing a set of famous pop songs. Tolu is a very familiar face on campus, but has never sung in public before! This may be your only chance to see the cheerful Tolu perform live songs alongside guitarist Graham Essex, keyboard player Michael Banwart, cajon player Lilia Escobar, and bass player Paul Johnson

Gen Rising, a new indie-jazz rock band on-the-rise, is performing a live set of original songs. Some of which have been previewed if you were at the Kildahl open mic event earlier this semester! Gen Rising brings a chill vibe to the stage but never lacks the ability to get the audience moving and clapping along with their songs. With charismatic band members Tatyana Hornof, Maddie Thies, Gunnar Olseth, Lilia Escobar, and Griffin House, there is no doubt you will be very engaged with Gen Rising’s stunning performance!

If you haven’t been to the recent Lunar New Year, Africa Night, or International Night, you have been missing out on Afritino’s heart-throbbing performance! Afritino is a dance crew composed of Romario Ignatius-Smith, Dillon Cathro, and Alma Castaneda. The three breakdancers will knock you off your feet!

Alex Hemmer, who has also performed with DNNR PRTY, shares an exhilarating and intimate acoustic set. Alex is performing original songs, most of which are featured on Spotify!

We invite you all to come and have the time of your life at The Urban Sound 2016!
