St. Olaf Special Olympics is a student group that partners with the Northfield Special Olympics group. Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization all over the world that gives people with special needs the opportunity to participate in sports. Our club helps during several sports seasons throughout the year, practicing with and encouraging the athletes to succeed.

This fall, we participated in a unified bowling league. Each member of the club was paired up with an athlete and met for practice every week at Jesse James Lanes. At the end of the season, we participated in a bowling tournament in which everyone received a medal based on improvement.

The Northfield athletes are currently in their basketball and swimming seasons. The Carleton Special Olympics group is hosting basketball practices, and we are hosting the swim practices down at Skoglund every Saturday. The swimmers have their last tournament on March 19th at the University of St. Thomas and are getting excited to swim their favorite strokes.

In a couple weeks we will be helping with track and field practices on Monday and Thursday nights. If you are interested in assisting at practices, please contact Jessica Johnson at for more information.
