Often described as brilliant, astonishing, profound, and enchanting, it is clear that Dessa is a force to be reckoned with. Among her many talents, Dessa is an accomplished writer, spoken word artist, rapper, singer, and an all-around Minneapolis success story.

Dessa first came into the music business when she joined the Minneapolis-based collective of artists known as Doomtree (featuring local artists P.O.S, Mike Mictlan, Lazerbeak, Sims, Paper Tiger and Cecil Otter). At first brought together by friendship, after experimenting with Doomstree’s diverse background in rap, punk, indie-rock, and pop, Dessa added her own unique sound to the group, incorporating spoken word, rap, hip-hop, poetic sensibility and a multi-platform voice as she joined the group in 2005. Having risen now to the position of CEO in Doomtree, Dessa has appeared in a number of the label’s collaborative albums. In addition to her collaborative work under the label, Dessa has also released a solo EP titled False Hopes (2005) and three solo albums titled A Badly Broken Code (2010), Castor, the Twin (2011), and Parts of Speech (2013).

In not too long (October 23), Dessa (joined by Aby Wolf) will be gracing the Pause Main Stage as this year’s Fall Concert headliner. Get your tickets online at stolaftickets.com, outside of the Caf at dinner Monday-Wednesday (credit card, odd times for cash or ole dollars) or in the OSA (BC 107 Tuesday 10-12pm, Thursday 9:15-11am, Friday 9:30-10:30am) for $5!
