Ole The Lion Weekly Email

Hey friends,

This week has definitely been long and hard, but the weekend is almost upon us! SGA has a lot of fun activities lined up for our procrastinating pleasure, so I’m pretty stoked.

Also, I know that you have been waiting for this: 13 days until Thanksgiving Break! It’s so close I can almost hear my relatives asking the obligatory ECI (coined by me, patent pending: means ‘existential crisis inducing’) questions. Now might be the time to start thinking of your answers, because no one likes the taste of pumpkin pie being overshadowed by anxiety over your Aunt Cindy’s inquiry. When in doubt, tell them Jesse came. #notoverit

Until Next Time,

Ole the Lion

Hello my little punkins,

Now that Halloweekend has come and gone, it’s time to put those Halloween costumes away and take those turkey costumes out (okay that would be a little more abnormal than a Halloween costume, but plz someone make it a thing)! But really guys, call me Beyonce because this is a Countdown: there are only 20 days until Thanksgiving Break! If that’s not something to be thankful for, idk what is.

ALSO, hot topic on the street, REGISTRATION IS TOMORROW. Do you have your classes together? Do you have an SPM? Is that 8 AM REALLY realistic? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, wow good 4 you, your life is so much more together than mine. ~seamless transition~ Also, if you love registering for classes and learning about GE’s, apply to be on the GE Task Force HERE! This is a killer chance to give input and learn more about our education requirements, and today is the last day to apply, so DO IT.

Until Next Time, try not to break the panini press.

WHATS GOING ON THIS WEEK?!?!?!?

Ole The Lion Weekly Email

Hello again goons and ghouls,

A lot of things arouse fear in college students: an 8 AM after a late night in the library, walking to Old Main with a full cup of coffee, and seeing that the caf ran out of spoons on pudding day. Forget all of these fears, guys, because this weekend will have no late night light library runs, no spilling coffee, and the metaphorical spoons will be plentiful.

This week has been full of free cookies (S/o #AllinfortheHill) and midterm extensions (S/o my prof), but the fun is far from over. If you haven’t noticed from the changing leaves/changing weather/changing spirits of Californian freshmen realizing what they got into, IT’S OCTOBER and that means IT’S HALLOWEEKEND. I hope you all have an elaborate costume planned (or some cardboard to write “nudist on strike” on), because this weekend’s events are going to be ~sPoOKy~.

Til next time my BOOtiful Souls (tbt when Jesse McCartney was here lol not over it),

FRI 8:00 PM Nothing gets the party started like free pizza and a double wellness swipe, so kick off a fang-tastic weekend by stopping by the Wellness Center’s Alcohol Education Carnival in Crossroads before the dance.
FRI 10:00 PM If you’ve ever wanted to see a hot dog dancing next to Steve Urkel, you’re going to want to come to the Grooveyard Pause Dance. BONUS: There’s a photo booth outside the dance, so get your group poses planned! ALSO: Bagels after the dance, so there’s really no losing with this one.
SAT 7:00 PM Take a break from your scary homework and come to African and Caribbean Night in the Pause! Skits, spoken word, and dancing are my favorite forms of procrastination. Tickets are being sold tonight outside of dinner!
SAT 9:00 PM Your horrorscope was scarily accurate when it said you’d be watching Ghostbusters, eating caramel apples and playing minute mysteries in the caf on saturday night. It also said you should probably buy Ole an all day coffee, but idk that’s the stars not me idk

SENATE GOING UP

  • Senate heard two presentations surrounding racism on campus. Senate is preparing concrete methods to prevent and address discrimination.
  • This semester’s CAF FAST will be sponsored by Oles Combating Poverty! More news on Caf Fast coming soon.
  • Senator of the Week: Charlie Bahnson, SOC Coordinator! Charlie works hard organizing Caf Fast and supporting student orgs. Thank you for all you do, Charlie!

HILL HIGHLIGHTS

  • On a personal level, nothing’s scarier to me than the idea of voluntary physical activity, which is why we’re so #blessed to be able to watch other people kill it on the sports field. Come to the football Ole Pride event on Saturday at 1, and put on your fave costume, because there will be a costume contest at halftime! (Also, free pride gear? But that’s just a fun bonus.)
  • On Monday, AKA HALLOWEEN (WHAT), SAC will have the SnAC Wheel O’ Terror in Bunt during Chapel time! Spin the wheel and win some spooktacular snax. #freefood #imallin
  • SAC Movie of the Week: GHOSTBUSTERS. If you haven’t seen it, what are you doing?! Kristen Wiig fighting ghosts is literally all I need in my life. Normal showings on Friday, and ~special~ caf showing on Saturday!

WHATS GOING ON THIS WEEK?!?!?!?

Ole The Lion Weekly Email

Hello to all my beautiful souls,

I hope that you all had a great week and are ready for this week’s events! If not, bribe your friends going to target to get you a large amount of Airborne, fill a tub with it, drink your way out and you’re gucci.

On Monday, MEC announced that Jesse McCartney will be Olaf’s fall concert. And upon hearing that news, the sun began to shine, the dish return machine was magically fixed, and your history prof said “let there be an extension.” We are truly blessed to be living in this time. Unfortunately, the tickets are sold out. If you are one of the privileged 875 people to grab a golden ticket, hold onto that baby with your life (I’m framing mine, but you do you). If you don’t have a ticket, I would recommend offering your services of laundry, baking, cleaning, and/or getting on your knees and begging to a ticket holder. Good luck, Oles. May the odds be ever in your favor.

This is that time of the year where the leaves change, and you feel cozy, and want to drink unlimited cider, and watch Halloween movies, and hide from responsibility. I’m not stopping you. *This message has been typed from Ole under his blanket watching Stranger Things and drinking cider, avoiding GCal*

Ok I think it’s time to be Leavin’

FRI 4:30 PM SAC is putting on a Grill Out and Volleyball Event! If you want to show off your athleticism (or lack thereof) and possibly win prizes, come to the Ytterboe lawn and bump a ball and eat a hamburger (bonus points if you do them at the same time). Sign-ups for the tournament are happening tonight outside of the caf, so grab 3 of your closest friends, acquaintances, strangers, professors, etc. and get in the "farewell to summer" mood.
FRI 7:30 PM MEC is coming in clutch (for the 2nd time this week, plz refer to above Jesse McCartney news) with a concert in the Art Barn. Artists will be EGO DEATH and STRANGE RELATIONS and if that isn’t my aesthetic, I don’t know what is. #iamawkwardaroundothers #andmyegoishuge
FRI 9:30 PM After you’ve had your fill of head banging, come to Crossroads at 9:25 and shuttle down to StoGrow for Astrophotography (walking will be better tho tbh)! ADC is partnering with the Photography and Astronomy clubs to create a fun walk around StoGrow, which will pair nicely with FREE hot chocolate and cider. #lit #bcstars #getit

HILL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Your favorite lion may be slightly off his rocker, folks. I told you about the Piper Center hours last week and got them as wrong as a trip to the library with no nap. The new evening drop-in hours are Tuesdays and WEDNESDAYS from 7-9, instead of whatever the heck I said. #planaccordingly
  • Tomorrow is general elections for senate and hall council, so please vote! Go to Oleville from 9 AM to 9 PM and take 2 minutes to cast yo ballot. #democracy
  • SAC movie of the week: Neighbors 2. Fun reminder that Zac Efron is in this movie, so I wouldn’t recommend missing it on the grounds that ZAC EFRON IS IN THIS MOVIE (need I reference HSM?).

Hello again my little raindrops,

Our thighs are sore from Old Main stairs, and our eyes are wet from the beauty of S’more shakes (new idea: become a poetry major? lmk). YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. The week is almost over, and it’s time to get in the ~festive~ mood for Homecoming. So pull out those bomb Monop-OLE shirts, collect cage drink sleeves, and paint your face (not optional), cuz THIS WEEKEND IS ABOUT TO BE EPIC.

We’ve had ton of events this week (not to mention the craziness of keeping up with Ole’s Den), so I took the liberty of making you an itinerary of this weekend’s fun below.
Until next time, stay dry and don’t get too stressed about the iPhone update (sent with reluctant acceptance effect).

MONOP-OLE

TONIGHT 7:00 PM Do you think this is a game? Bc IT IS. Stop by the Pause to play giant, life-size Monop-OLE and if you’re lucky you’ll win some amazing prizes (did someone say Ole Gear?). I’ve always personally identified with the thimble, so I’m stoked.
FRI 7:30 PM Not going to say this is one of the highlights of the weekend, but it is, and you should be there. Come to the Pause and watch your friends slash total strangers compete for the title of CHAMPION OF THE HILL, aka the ultimate Olaf honor.
SAT 11:00 AM Nothing says school spirit like a lion on your face, so check that off your to-do list by swinging through the Quad and getting your face painted before the game gets started.
SAT 1:00 PM THE PINNACLE HOMECOMING GAME against Bethel, and let’s hope the weather’s not too ~dicey~ (Just in case you forgot it’s monopoly themed ok thx).
SAT 10:00 PM No reason to be BOARD Saturday. Just ROLL with it, and go to the Homecoming Pause Dance. (Guys there are only so many game puns this has been a long week sos) .

WEEKEND LINEUP

TONIGHT 6:30 PM Follow the fre$h smell of cookies and democracy to Crossroads, where your senate candidates will be ready to make their case for your vote. (Also cookies. Did I mention that? Again: cookies.)
FRI 10:45 AM If you’re looking to introduce some #inspo to your Friday, Major General William Collins ’84 will be speaking on leadership and his other intimidatingly cool achievements in Viking. Stop by!
FRI 9:30 PM OH SCRIPT! (More like #noscript tho) Scared Scriptless is having their Homecoming show in Ytterboe. We’re all making it up as we go, but the difference is they’re funny af. BE THERE.

HILLo again Oles :’)

I trust that you all had an a-mane-zing first day of classes, I know I did (OChem kids: it’s not too late to switch into fitness walking. You can save yourselves). Since we’ve all channeled Rihanna and put in that #work, SGA decided to reward us with some KILLER activities this weekend.

Have a great ~full~ first week of classes and try to keep confused crying about the rearranged caf to a minimum. Catch ya on the flip side (of the dessert station) (because it’s flipped now) (ok cool),

FALL BLOCK PARTY

FRI 4:30 PM The night starts with activities on the quad, and trust me–you will want to be there (cough cough FREE STUFF cough cough). Minnesota Nice doesn’t usually extend to the weather, but if it works out we’ll have double the fun with the co-curric fair at the same time, hollaaaa. While you’re around, bring your dinner and rock out to Lutheran Heat from 5-5:45 and Mina Moore from 6-7. #Good4TheSoul
FRI 9:00 PM And you’re definitely not going to want to miss THE FIRST PAUSE DANCE OF THE YEAR (cue confetti cannons, cheering, etc). There’s a fun TWiSt to this particular dance because ADC is coming in hot with a Headphone Disco. What does that mean? Don’t fret, your favorite lion has the complete low down on this sitch. More details below, for your reading pleasure.
SAT 7:30 PM THE FUN ‘N GAMES CONTINUE on Saturday, with the Ben Seidman Comedy and Magic Show in the Pause. This incorporates my two favorite things: comic relief and cookies. Word on the street is that Ben actually has magical powers, but I have yet to confirm.

HEADPHONE DISCO DEETS

  • WHO: You. All your new friends. Your best moves. Etc.
  • WHAT: A headphone disco is just your classic Pause dance, BUT with everyone listening to music through headphones on separate portable music players. The players are all synchronized and there will be two different DJs to switch between, so whatever your jam is, we’ve gotcha covered. Don’t worry, headphones are provided, so all you need to bring is the previously mentioned “who” section (Oh, and your ID).
  • WHERE: THE PAUSE. I’ve had a Pause shaped hole in my heart all summer. If you are just beginning your love affair with the Pause, it’s in the lower part of Buntrock Commons and it’s a magical place.
  • WHEN: There are two sessions for this v ~special~ dance: from 9-11 and 11-1. So get some friends together, pick a session, and come rock out!
  • WHY: The pizza and shakes, the dancing, the music, or the friends? I’ll let you be the judge of that.

HILL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Applications for a bunch of different organizations are live right now. If you are interested in joining a branch of SGA, I made a little tool to help you find your perfect match. You can take the Buzzfeed quiz here, but also be sure to check out all of the branches here!
  • Speaking of technological advances, unless you hate convenience and joy, you probably want to download/update the All About Olaf app. It’ll save you from making long treks in the cold only to find out a building is closed and it has the CAGE MOBILE MENU, so calling it a lifesaver is not an overstatement.
